Prof. Muhammad Gwarzo, the Chairman Governing Board, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) says any quack laboratory scientist caught shall be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Gwarzo gave this warning in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency on Thursday, in Abuja.
He said the MLSCN was determined to rid the sector of quacks because quackery had been identified as one of the major challenges the sector was facing.
According to him, it is imperative to prosecute such quacks to serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.
"Another challenge we face is that of people who are not qualified Laboratory scientists, but have worked in medical Laboratories claiming to be part of the profession.
"It is like getting someone who does not know anything about medicine to act as a medical doctor, surely there are going to be casualties,'' Gwarzo said.
He, however, acknowledged that Nigeria was developing gradually and getting a better understanding of the health sector.
The chairman noted that the council had a lot do in preventing unnecessary deaths and spread of diseases through training, inspection and regulation.
Gwarzo, who congratulated Mr Tosan Erhabor on his confirmation as the Registrar of MLSCN, said the board would ensure harmonious working relationship with the executive to take the council to greater heights.
